The Guildford Institute launches autumn brochure: hybrid courses and evening classes
The Guildford Institute, an educational and social community hub, has launched its brochure for the autumn term. Jam-packed with over 60 courses, workshops and talks, it has an exciting programme on offer to the local community and beyond. This term, the Institute’s activities will be available online, in-person and in hybrid formats (running online and in-person simultaneously), in order to give greater flexibility to attendees.
Coinciding with Black History Month in October, the Institute has opted for a focus of Celebrating Black History. Its focus events will offer the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the richness of our culture through a range of topics in art history, literature and local history. As part of this, the Institute will host its first Special Event in 18 months with Curator and Heritage Consultant S.I Martin, who will explore Surrey’s Black History (20 October).
This autumn will see a number of evening courses on offer to enable more people to get involved in the Institute’s programme of activities. Learn about The Life and Work of Chris Ofili (20 – 27 October), unwind with Yoga for Every ‘Body’ (15 September – 20 October and 10 November – 15 December), or learn a language with Spanish for Beginners (14 September – 07 December).
Each term, the Institute supports and promotes the work of local artists through its brochure front cover. This term’s cover is by Surrey-based artist Yeside Linney; largely self-taught, she is predominately a landscape painter and draws much of her inspiration from her local landscape, literature and travels.
Institute Manager, Amy Rice said: “In putting our autumn programme together, we have tried to be as flexible as possible, offering the chance to participate in our sessions in whichever way is most comfortable for you. Whether you would prefer to join from the comfort of your own home, or to socialise with likeminded people in our beautiful Grade II listed building, daytime or evening, we hope there is something for everyone within our programme”.
Courses, workshops and talks for the autumn term will run from 01 September to 10 December 2021. Advance booking for all Institute activities is essential. As well as discounted rates for Institute members, concession rates are available for those aged 65 and over, 30 years and under and jobseekers.
