Support a local cause this International Charity Day

Our Guildford Community Lottery has raised more than £150,000 for over 130 local good causes since it was set up in 2018. You could win £25,000 in the weekly draw plus £1,000 of John Lewis vouchers if you support a good cause before Sunday 30 October.

Lead Councillor for Community and Housing, Cllr Julia McShane says:

“We are lucky to have many brilliant charities in our borough and International Charity Day on Sunday is the perfect opportunity to help them. We have seen an amazing sense of community and togetherness from charities, community groups and volunteers in the last 18 months, as they have helped residents through the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Our Community Lottery is a great way for people to support local good causes and for local not-for-profit groups to raise money and help people in need. It’s completely free for them to join, and good causes get their own Lottery fundraising page and free online marketing materials.

“Lottery tickets are only £1 and ticket holders could win a grand prize of £25,000 in the weekly draw. To play, visit the website and find a cause you would like to support. You can find out more about what the cause does before you purchase your tickets.

“60% of all ticket sales go towards local good causes. If supporters buy tickets directly from an organisation’s Lottery page, that good cause will receive 50% of the ticket price. Another 10% from every ticket goes to our charitable fund Guildford Philanthropy.”

Good causes supported include mental health charities, hospices, community groups, sports clubs and arts organisations.

Chairman of Guildford Philanthropy, Peter Cluff says:

“The Lottery has helped us raise over £30,000, which goes towards helping local disadvantaged people in Guildford. The lottery is a great online way of generating additional funds for not-for-profit organisations. It’s completely free to join and means the good causes can continue to help those in need.”

Throughout the year there are national bolt-on prizes where ticket holders can win more than just cash prizes. If you buy tickets before Sunday 30 October you have a chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot plus £1,000 of John Lewis vouchers.
