New inspiring play areas for children of all ages will be coming to Park Barn and Westborough, as plans to improve existing play spaces move forward. Councillors agreed to invest up to £320,000 in better play provision at a meeting of the Executive last night (16 July) with a focus on better quality provision for all ages.

Cllr Julia McShane, Lead Cllr for Health and Wellbeing, the Voluntary Sector, Grants Panel, Play Strategy and Project Aspire says: “Thank you to everyone who shared their views in our initial consultation, it was great to hear from you. We want to provide better opportunities for play for children of all ages and abilities in our borough and we are delighted our plans for the Park Barn and Westborough areas are taking shape. The next step will be workshops and consultation on the proposed designs later this year – keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more information.”

A review of the play areas at Kings College, Chapelhouse, Woodside and Derby Road will now take place before new designs are drawn up.

Cllr McShane adds: “Playgrounds play an important role in bringing our community together, giving children the space to be active, use their imaginations and make new friends. Providing quality facilities for all ages is a key priority for the new facilities.”
