Thousands of staff across Guildford are set to benefit from discounts on rail and bus travel as local businesses join easitGUILDFORD.
In a scheme which has seen Guildford Borough Council team up with easit, staff are offered not only discounts on public transport but also reductions on bikes, car hire and other easitINITIATIVES. Currently, 12 organisations have signed up, taking advantage of the various travel discounts available, representing approximately 8,000 staff in the Guildford area. Electronic Arts, Philips Electronics. The University of Law and The Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are just some of the businesses that have already joined easitGUILDFORD.
The scheme aims to encourage people to use more sustainable methods of transport for both work and leisure to reduce carbon emissions, one of the leading causes of climate change, and improve health and wellbeing.
Mel Mehmet, CEO of easit, said: “We are delighted to have launched our second new network of 2019 and the 17th easitNETWORK overall. There now exists a real desire to address transport issues and that is where easit can help. We are very much looking forward to working with Guildford Borough Council and other local businesses.”
Cllr Susan Parker, Lead Councillor for Environment and Rural Strategy at Guildford Borough Council, said “I am delighted that so many local businesses have already signed up to easit, and that the Council is included in this. All the employees involved will be using more sustainable forms of transport. This is good for Guildford’s Climate Change targets and for our Air Quality. We want to encourage even more businesses to get involved and to encourage travel alternatives generally. This will benefit everyone, we all have to join in to help combat Climate Change and to seek to improve our air quality.”
