ACM is proud to announce that alongside offering its Game Development Degree in Guildford for the first time, it will now also be offering this course at the Diploma level. Guildford is widely recognised as the Hollywood of the Games Industry so launching this course at a Diploma Level is incredibly important for the academy. David McGreene, Head of Game Development at ACM said: “As Guildford is the heart of the UK games industry, it only made sense for us at ACM to launch our Game Development Diploma after successfully running our BA (Hons) Games Development and Futures Degree in London. We look forward to not only joining the local community but also creating the next generation of talented UK game developers.”
The qualification for this diploma is titled Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication, and it is awarded by the University of the Arts London. It is the equivalent of 3 A-Levels and worth up to 168 UCAS Points.
Further Education Games Lead, Huda Mahdi, said: “This Diploma will offer a wide range of theoretical knowledge and practical skill development across core disciplines within the game development industry. The course covers the fundamentals of game design, programming, graphics and audio, business and project management, and how these practices work together to plan, design, develop and present game prototypes.”
Those interested in studying on this course need only have a keen interest in the Games Industry as the course will provide a full introduction to the world of game development.
With studios like EA, Supermassive Games, Stellar Entertainment, Media Molecule, Hello Games, among many others calling Guildford home, students studying at ACM Guildford will be fully immersed in the Games Industry throughout their studies. The same state-of-the-art facilities that are available to the Game Development Degree students in London will be available in Guildford with high-end development PCs and industry-standard software such as Mayer, Unreal and Unity installed for student use.
ACM Game Development Ambassador Steve Goss said: “I am super excited to see ACM offer this new course. Guildford is an energetic hub of games development, a place to carve out a career in the most exciting and creative industry in the world. Games development is a unique combination of creative and technical, and this course lays out all the foundations you need to take that next step and become part of a vibrant community of developers.”
Since the COVID 19 pandemic the Games Industry has boomed as the demand for at-home entertainment has skyrocketed. The industry worth is projected to be worth 7 Billion by 2024*.
